Ceasefire ends/ Russia and Ukraine resume drone attacks

Russia and Ukraine resumed their drone attacks overnight after a brief ceasefire declared for Orthodox Easter ended, which was accompanied by accusations of massive violations by both sides.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 98 drones against Ukraine, of which 87 were shot down. The Russian Defense Ministry also said it had captured 33 Ukrainian drones overnight.

During the 32-hour Easter ceasefire, Kiev and Moscow have accused each other of violating it hundreds of times. Meanwhile, a local Ukrainian official said on Monday that two people were killed and one was wounded by Russian troops in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region before the Easter ceasefire expired.

One person was killed in the city of Kramatorsk and another in Druzhkivka on Sunday, regional governor Vadym Fylashkin said in a post on the Telegram messaging app, without giving further details.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Central Coordination Office for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported today, citing a spokesman for the 14th Army Corps, that during the ceasefire, Russian soldiers shot and killed four Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kharkiv region. The office did not provide further information, but added that Russia is preparing a campaign to deny it.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported today that it had counted a total of 10,721 violations by Russia during the ceasefire.

On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that it had recorded 1,971 ceasefire violations by Ukraine during the night from Saturday to Sunday morning. /CNA
