Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew: Just and lasting peace for the end of the war

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew stated during a divine liturgy that peace in Ukraine cannot be established without the participation of the people themselves.

The Patriarch emphasized that the desire for freedom and the ability to live according to one's conscience are God-given realities that cannot be extinguished by force.

“We offer our prayers today for those whose lives have been lost, not as collateral damage in a power strategy, but as loved ones whose absence leaves a void that no geopolitical solution can fill. A battlefield without firearms is not always peace. It can be an uncomfortable silence, a weariness mistaken for calm, or a submission disguised as calm. A true consensus requires the restoration of what has been violated and the recognition of a nation’s right to determine its own destiny. It is a moral imperative that the future of a people cannot be the subject of secret negotiations or decided without their full and equal participation. Anything less than this is not peace, it is simply injustice given a diplomatic name,” the Patriarch said./CNA
