A former rapper has won Nepal's parliamentary elections and is set to become prime minister. The chosen one is Balendra Shah, 35, also known as "Balen".
Shah is known as a former rapper and former mayor of the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, and is now also the leader of the Rastriya Swatantra party.
He became very popular with rap songs criticizing corruption and social problems, and then entered politics.
In the 2026 parliamentary elections in Nepal, his party won 182 out of 275 seats in parliament, almost 2/3 of the parliament, a huge victory, as he defeated former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in his constituency.
