One day after the opening of the Rafah crossing/ Netanyahu-Witkoff meeting in Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met in Jerusalem on Tuesday. It was Witkoff's second visit to Israel in about 10 days.

According to an Israeli official, the meeting took place a day after the partial opening of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

The meeting comes ahead of a new round of talks between the US and Iran expected to take place this week in Turkey regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

Witkoff and the Iranian nuclear program representative will meet in Istanbul in an attempt to revive diplomacy and avoid a wider regional conflict.

During the previous visit, Witkoff, accompanied by Jared Kushner, had pressured Israel to open the Rafah crossing more quickly, according to Israeli media.

Israeli officials confirmed the meeting but did not provide specific details about the content of the talks. /CNA
