The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has warned Iran that any attempt against it will receive an immediate and devastating response from the US.

In a post on the "Social Truth" platform, Trump declared that 1,000 missiles are ready to be launched against Iran, adding that orders for the US military have already been given and that US forces are ready to act if the threat against him becomes a reality.

Meanwhile, according to US media, the Trump administration has sent Tehran an ultimatum, demanding that Iran publicly declare that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to international shipping and commit to stopping attacks on commercial ships.

According to US officials, the message has been conveyed both directly and through regional intermediaries. Washington expects Iran to issue a statement after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi meets with his Omani counterpart in Muscat.

The US demands that Iran guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without tariffs or barriers and has warned that rejecting these demands will bring "serious consequences" for Tehran.

The developments come after US media reports that intelligence services had received information about possible threats against Trump. Washington links these threats to Iran's repeated vows of revenge after the killing of General Qasem Soleimani in 2020. /CNA
