The Kosovo-Serbia talks in Brussels ended unsuccessfully

The chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia held separate meetings in Brussels with the envoy of the European Union, Miroslav Lajcak.

Lajcak first met with the chief negotiator of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi and then with that of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, but there was no tripartite meeting and both accused each other of his failure.

"There was only one point on the agenda, moving forward with the implementation of the agreement on the normalization of relations. However, it was emphasized that additional topics can be discussed if both parties agree. We agreed on this, but Serbia wanted to condition its participation in meeting with additional topics on the agenda, which were not acceptable to the Kosovar side", said Bislimi.

On the other hand, the Serbian chief negotiator, Petkovic, accused Bislim of refusing to meet with representatives of Belgrade because of his insistence on topics such as the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.

"What kind of normalization is this, if you don't want to talk about the key issue such as the Association of Serb-majority municipalities. A key issue is also how the Serbs are living in Kosovo," said Petkovic.

After the end of the meeting, Miroslav Lajcak reacted on the X network where he expressed regret for the failure of the meeting, but added that the talks will continue in the coming weeks.

"I received today in Brussels the two chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia and their delegations for separate meetings. I regret that we did not deal with the most pressing issues in a tripartite format today. I remain available to the parties and we will continue in the following weeks"./CNA
