"The agreement with Iran will be signed today"/ Tehran expresses

United States President Donald Trump has said that a deal between the United States and Iran is expected to be signed on Sunday, although Iranian officials have expressed reservations about the timeline.

In a post on social media, Trump said yesterday that immediately after the signing of the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be "open to all," ending restrictions on one of the world's most important oil and gas transportation corridors.

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei was more reserved, stating that the exact date of signing the memorandum of understanding cannot yet be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, which has played a mediating role in the negotiations, announced that the agreement could be finalized within 24 hours and that preparations are being made for its electronic signature.

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the agreement envisages an end to the regional conflict, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US blockade of Iranian ports. He added that negotiations on Iran's nuclear program will continue at a later stage.

Trump also stated that Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium would be dealt with at a later date and destroyed once the situation stabilizes. For decades, Western countries have accused Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran insists its program has peaceful, civilian purposes.

The current conflict began on February 28, following US and Israeli attacks on targets in Iran. In response, Tehran launched attacks against Israel and US allies in the Persian Gulf, causing high tensions in the region and affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Although the sides reached a ceasefire in April, clashes have continued in recent weeks. A possible agreement would represent the most significant step towards reducing tensions in the Middle East since the conflict began. /CNA
