FAREWELL POPE FRANCIS!/ Thousands of believers and world leaders at the Vatican

The funeral mass for Pope Francis has just concluded.

Pope Francis was given his final embrace and farewell as the head of the Roman Catholic Church and disciple of Christ. The Mass of Light, which expresses faith in the Risen Christ, was presided over by the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re. He was joined by 980 cardinals, bishops and priests.

The 6 prayers of the faithful were read in French, Arabic, Portuguese, Polish, German and Chinese. After Communion, the last recommendation to God to welcome the soul of the deceased into the glorious communion of saints was celebrated, as well as the farewell, or last greeting before burial, with the prayer of the Church of Rome.

At the end, Cardinal Re sprinkled the coffin with holy water and carried it, which then passed through St. Peter's Basilica and from there, with a funeral procession, to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption.

Delegations from all over the world were present at the mass, led by presidents such as US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and President Sergio Mattarella, etc.

President Bajram Begaj was from Albania, while President Vjosa Osmani was from Kosovo. Religious leaders of many world religions, such as Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians and Jains, were present.

Over 200,000 people and believers attended the funeral ceremony. They were stationed in St. Peter's Square and the streets surrounding the square. Over 50,000 were in St. Peter's Square alone.

Three days of tributes were held in honor of the Pope after he passed away on April 21 at the age of 88, the day after Easter./ CNA
