In late October, a pier collapsed in Hamburg's Hafencity, killing five people of Albanian origin. Authorities had closely examined the site just a few days earlier - and found defects.

According to an information from the public television NDR, in some parts of the large construction site in the place called Überseequartier, fall protection was missing. The personal protective equipment of some workers was not checked. And: the construction site was not secure everywhere, so that no one would be harmed in case of falling objects.

And these were found exactly ten days before a large scaffold collapsed into an elevator shaft. This comes from the Senate's answer to a question from CDU group leader Dennis Thering.

The accident, which claimed the lives of five construction workers from Albania, occurred on the morning of October 30 at the large construction site in the Überseequartier. A scaffolding carrying several construction workers fell from the eighth floor into an elevator shaft. About 150 people from the rescue teams were mobilized to save the workers. According to the information provided, the rescue work was complicated. It is not yet clear why the pier collapsed./ DW
