The Constitutional Court has decided to suspend the law "On the special treatment of students who follow the integrated study program of the second cycle "General Medicine" in public institutions of higher education", which prohibited students from leaving the country after completion of the cycle of studies.

The "constituent" accepted the request of a group of deputies, suspending the implementation of the law until the review of its merits.

The law, widely opposed by students and the opposition, was approved in July of this year as a measure to prevent the departure of doctors from Albania.

This was followed by numerous protests by students, who contested this decision of the Rama government. Students have been boycotting classes for more than 3 weeks. 

Any medical student who does not fulfill the legal obligation to provide health services for 3 to 5 years in his country and chooses to leave Albania after his studies, will have to pay a fee of 240 thousand new leks for each year study./ CNA
