Presidential candidate/Konjufca: A name from the Jashari family, automatic

Kosovo's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca, said that if a name for president were to come from the family of Kosovo's hero, Adem Jashari, it would be an "automatic consensus" in society.

"Consensus of political parties, so far the only names that have automatically caused a positive reception, an automatic consensus in our society is a president from the ranks of the honorable Jashari family," he told the media on February 25, after meeting with Albania's chief diplomat, Elisa Spiropali.

Asked if there is any willingness from the Jashari family on this issue, Konjufca said that it is not his place to speak on their behalf.

"You have to go there and get the answer, I'm not here to assume that this is it. The prime minister was there," he said.

Days ago, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti stayed in Prekaz, Skenderaj, with the Jashari family. He confirmed to the media that he had spoken with Rifat Jashari "about political issues."

Names from this family have been mentioned as potential presidential candidates in the past, but none of them have resulted in an official proposal.

Kosovo MPs have until March 4 to elect a new president, as the current president, Vjosa Osmani, expires her five-year term on April 4. Osmani has expressed her intention to seek a second term as head of state./REL
