Defeat in the December 28 elections / Abdixhiku announces resignation as LDK

The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has announced that he has offered his resignation to the party's Assembly.

In a reaction on his social networks, Abdixhiku emphasizes that the Assembly, as the highest body of the party, will decide not only on the fate of the president, but also on the future path of the LDK.

Full post:

In front of our house, our membership; with complete transparency.

It was an informal, consultative meeting with the vice-chairs of the LDK, but with extraordinary public interest, for which I sincerely thank the Kosovo media.

As I stated in the press conference on election night, I have a moral, human and political obligation to offer my resignation to the LDK membership, namely to our Assembly. I do not do this to escape responsibility, but to face it. Because responsibility is not borne with excuses, but with the courage to stand before the judgment of your people.

Let the Assembly, as the highest body of the party, decide with democratic dignity not only about the fate of the president and myself personally, but also about the future path of the LDK.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the messages received, one by one, since election night until today, and for the numerous requests not to resign. Each of them has touched me. It has reminded me of how many people have believed, worked and sacrificed for this political house. And precisely for them, I have no right to hide or protect myself behind anyone else. I only have the obligation to come forward. Because above any personal feelings lies the responsibility to the membership and to the institution we represent. Let our membership decide. This is the most honest and fair way.

In this process, I am neither infallible nor perfect. I have done everything I knew and could for the LDK. We won some battles, we lost some. But I have never worked more for myself than for this party.

At this time, let everyone who has ambition, will, and ability openly seek the support of our membership. Democracy is not comfort; it is the courage to enter the race, even when it is difficult.

First, we will convene the Presidency, in an official meeting. Then the Assembly. And whatever the membership decides, I will respect it with calmness and dignity, because above every name, above every function, stands the LDK and the trust of its people.

Abdixhiku's decision to resign comes after the results of the early parliamentary elections on December 28. The Vetëvendosje Movement, led by Albin Kurti, won 51.11% of the vote, or 486,994 votes, giving it 57 seats in the Assembly. Kurti himself was the most voted person in Kosovo, receiving 404,023 votes.

The second party was the Democratic Party of Kosovo with 20.19% of the vote or 22 seats in the 120-seat Assembly. The Democratic League of Kosovo won 13.23 percent of the vote, which gives this party 15 seats in the legislative body.

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo won 5.50 percent of the vote and will have six MPs. The Serbian List, the main Serb party in Kosovo, close to official Belgrade, will have nine of the ten seats guaranteed to the Serb community.  /CNA
