Trump calls on Iranians: Continue protests, take over institutions

United States President Donald Trump announced today that he has canceled all meetings with Iranian officials, as he called on protesters in Iran to take control of their institutions.

The stance comes as Tehran's crackdown on protests has escalated to high levels.

In a post on the social network 'Truth Social', Trump stated that assistance would be provided, without providing further details on what kind of assistance was involved.  

"Iranian patriots, keep protesting, take control of your institutions!!! Write down the names of the murderers and abusers. They will pay a heavy price. I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the senseless killings of protesters stop. Help is on the way," Trump wrote in the message.

Trump has previously warned that he may consider military strikes on Iran to suppress its use of force against anti-government protesters if the situation worsens. He also announced that countries that do business with Iran will face a 25 percent tariff on US trade.

Protests in Iran are facing a harsh crackdown by authorities, with human rights organizations reporting that hundreds of people have been killed, including members of the security forces./CNA
