Finland plans to offer people vaccination against bird flu from next week. Initially, this vaccine will be offered to some workers who work with animals, health authorities said.

The Nordic country has bought vaccines for 10,000 people. They are given in two doses, and the vaccines were purchased within the framework of the European Union's joint purchase of 40 million doses for 15 countries, from the manufacturer CSL Seqirus.

The European Commission said Finland will be the first country to offer such vaccines to humans.

"Vaccines will be offered to people over 18 who are at greater risk of contracting bird flu due to their work and other circumstances," said the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.

In recent years, bird flu, or the H5N1 strain, has killed or caused the death of hundreds of millions of birds worldwide in recent years and is also increasingly spreading to mammals, including cows in the United States, but in some sometimes it affects people too.

Authorities said Finland has not recorded any cases of the flu in humans. However, the state wants to start vaccination because of the risk of the disease spreading on farms.

Last year, due to the spread of bird flu on farms, Finland destroyed 485,000 animals, so that the virus did not spread to humans./ Rel
