A passenger plane lost parts in mid-air, forcing it to make an emergency landing in the US state of Oregon on Friday.

Alaska Airlines' Boeing 737 Max 9 returned to Portland 35 minutes into its flight to California after an exterior part, including a window, fell off.

The US Federal Aviation Agency announced that the plane with 177 passengers on board returned safely, no one was injured. 

Images sent to the media show the night sky, which is visible through a gap in the plane's body. 

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that it was investigating the incident. /CNA
