The owner of a store in Iran has been sentenced to two years in prison for publishing photos without a headscarf, the US human rights network HRANA said on Friday.

According to NRANA, Zeinab Khenyab Pour was sentenced in early December to three months in prison, in another case for "propaganda against the state".

Zeinab, who hails from southwest Iran, had drawn a lot of attention during nationwide protests when authorities closed her shop.

In September 2022, the death of a young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, sparked the largest protests in the history of the Islamic Republic.

For several months in a row, young people took to the streets to demonstrate against Islamic rule.

Amin died in the custody of Iran's morality police, where he was being held after being arrested for allegedly not wearing the headscarf, or hijab, properly.

The protests slowly died down towards the end of 2022, as protesters faced strong repressive retaliation by security forces.

Hundreds of protesters were killed and thousands arrested, according to activists and the United Nations./ REL
