The British demand compensation from the government/ Vaccines for Covid-19

Almost 14,000 Britons have applied for payments from the government for alleged damage caused by Covid-19 vaccines.

The new figures show that payments have already been made for conditions such as stroke, heart attack, dangerous blood clots, inflammation of the spinal cord, excessive swelling of the vaccinated limb and facial paralysis.

About 97 percent of claims awarded involve AstraZeneca's vaccine, with only a few claims from Pfizer or Moderna. Since the establishment of the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) in 1979, there have been around 16,000 claims, but the vast majority of claims are for the Covid-19 vaccine.

Despite the warnings and the rising number of thrombosis cases, the UK government continued to recommend the AstraZeneca vaccine, even though vaccination had already been halted in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and Latvia until March 2021 .

Thousands of people have been turned away by medical assessors who say there is no concrete evidence the vaccine has caused harm, while hundreds more have been refused payment because they are "not sufficiently disabled".

Those who are successful receive a payment of £120,000, but so far the government has made payments in just 175 cases, less than 2 per cent of people who have applied.

More than 5,500 claims have been rejected, with a further 519 rejected before medical assessment. Despite nearly 1,000 people asking to have their case reviewed, only 12 have been told their decision has been overturned and they will eventually receive a payment.

Almost 350 claims were rejected because, although the assessors accepted that the vaccine had caused harm, they decided that it did not "cause serious disability". As per the rules, candidates must be 60 percent disabled to qualify.

The government insists the VDPS payment is not a compensation scheme and the money can be used to help claimants pursue compensation in court.

However, many argue that the VDPS payout is enough to take on big pharmaceutical companies or compensate for the loss of loved ones.

Last year, AstraZeneca officially admitted that in some cases the vaccine can cause VITT (vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia) and in May began a global recall of the vaccine, arguing that it was no longer effective now that newer vaccines had been adapted . to target variants of Covid-19.

The number of applications has reached such levels that the administrative staff processing applications has increased from four to 80 last year. More than 700 people have been waiting more than a year for a decision.

A spokesperson for AstraZeneca said:

"Our condolences go out to anyone who has lost loved ones or reported health problems. Patient safety is our highest priority. From the body of evidence in clinical trials and real-world data, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been consistently shown to have an acceptable safety profile, and regulatory authorities worldwide have consistently stated that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the extremely rare risks. possible side effects...".

While the Pfizer spokesperson has stated that:

"Patient safety is of the utmost importance and we take any reports of adverse reactions very seriously. Reports of adverse events do not imply causality, and in the context of vaccination such events may not be related to vaccine administration. Hundreds of millions of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for COVID-19 have been administered worldwide and the benefit-risk profile of the vaccine remains positive for all approved indications and age groups…” A government spokesperson said:

“The 60 per cent disability threshold is consistent with the Department for Work and Pensions' definition of 'severe disability' for Industrial Injuries Disability. In the event that an individual's claim is rejected based on the disability threshold, there is an opportunity for claimants to appeal the decision.'/ Taken from "The Telegraph"
