In space for two months, NASA sends supplies to the International Space Station

A spacecraft docked with the International Space Station (ISS) today to deliver food, fuel and other supplies to astronauts.

The ISS is currently home to seven members of the Expedition 71 crew and two NASA astronauts, Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who remain unscheduled at the station due to safety concerns with the Starliner capsule.

The unmanned Progress 89 spacecraft delivered about three tons of supplies today. It will remain tethered to the ISS for about six months before re-entering Earth's atmosphere.

Recall that astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams estimated that they would stay in space for about 10 days, but they have been on the International Space Station for more than two months with no return date in sight.

NASA will make a decision in late August about how and when they will return. If it is not possible to return by Starliner, they will use a SpaceX flight so their stay will be extended for several months. /CNA
