Security worsens at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant after drone attack

Security at Ukraine's occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is deteriorating after a drone strike on the road around it.

This is what the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said in a statement on Saturday, writes Sky News.

Earlier on Saturday, the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporizhia (ISAMZ) team was informed that an explosive device carried by a drone detonated outside the protected area of ??the plant.

The blast caused no casualties and no damage to nuclear equipment, but the surrounding road and gates were affected.

"Once again we see an escalation of nuclear safety and security risks facing the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant," said IAEA Director General Rafael Marioano Grossi.

Zaporizhia is the largest nuclear facility in Europe and has been occupied by Russian soldiers since the early stages of its war with Ukraine./CNA
