Ceasefire talks in Gaza/ Netanyahu sends the team of negotiators to Qatar

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to send an Israeli negotiating team to Qatar to continue talks on a Gaza ceasefire next week. The decision follows Friday's meeting between the head of Israel's Mossad intelligence service and Qatar's prime minister in Doha. Israeli media reported earlier that Mossad chief David Barnea informed Qatari mediators in Doha that Israel rejects Hamas' request for a written commitment that negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire could be extended indefinitely if it is required.

The Israeli proposal states that during the first phase of the ceasefire, which would last six weeks, Israel and Hamas would enter into negotiations on the terms of the second phase.

While these negotiations could be extended, Israel will not commit to it in writing because it is concerned that Hamas could use it to ensure an indefinite delay in the first phase of the negotiations, rather than release the lives of all remaining hostages, as planned in the second phase.
