Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US President Joe Biden on Thursday that he has decided to send a delegation to restart stalled hostage-release negotiations with Hamas, the Israeli prime minister's office and the White House announced.

During a telephone conversation between the two leaders, Prime Minister Netanyahu reiterated his position that Israel will end the nine-month war in Gaza only when all objectives have been achieved.

According to Israeli TV channel Channel 12, the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad will lead the Israeli delegation to the talks. However, there was no immediate confirmation of this.

Mr. Netanyahu held further consultations with his negotiating team on Thursday and discussed with his security cabinet the issue of talks on the release of the hostages.

The White House said the two leaders discussed the latest response received from Hamas.

"The president welcomed the prime minister's decision to authorize negotiators to engage with mediators from the United States, Qatar and Egypt in an effort to reach an agreement," the White House said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear where the Israeli delegation would go to resume talks. Previous efforts to end the conflict in Gaza were mediated by Egypt and Qatar, where talks were also held./ VOA
