Labor's landslide victory in the election, the new prime minister: Actions,
The new Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer

Great Britain is now under Labor leadership. The country's new Prime Minister Keir Starmer promised to work on changing the situation in the country, which he said will require commitment and time. Labour's landslide victory in Thursday's general election ended 14 years of often tumultuous Conservative rule.

Labor leader Keir Starmer is officially the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

In his first speech in office, he pledged to restore faith in politics and serve all voters, without distinction.

"My government will fight every day until you believe again. From now on, you have a government guided only by the determination to serve your interest," he said.

Before going to Government House Mr Starmer received the blessing of King Charles III to form the Government Cabinet.

Earlier on Friday, former prime minister Rishi Sunak offered the king his resignation. After more than a decade in power under five different prime ministers, the Sunak conservatives suffered a major defeat.

In his victory speech Mr Starmer spoke of a new beginning.

'We said we will end the chaos and we will, we said we will put the past behind us and we have. Today we start the next chapter, we are starting the work for change, we are starting to rebuild our country", he said.

Labor managed to secure two-thirds or 410 seats in the 650-member parliament.

But they come to power facing a sluggish economy, poor public services and declining living standards. All of this played a role in the downfall of the Tories, who were punished by voters for the high cost of living, as well as years of instability and civil war that brought five different prime ministers into office since the vote. for Britain's exit from the EU in 2016.

Tim Bale, a professor at Queen Mary University of London, says Labor has big challenges ahead.

"Although Labor scored a landslide victory it does not mean that all the problems facing the Conservative government have disappeared, such as the issue of immigration. Labor will have to find solutions for small boats coming through the La Canal Manshit. They should give up the Rwanda scheme, but they will have to find other solutions to deal with the problem."

The Conservatives were predicted to win only around 130 seats - the worst election showing in the party's history.

Mr. Sunak accepted the heavy defeat of the conservatives on Friday morning.

"Today, power will change hands, in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill from all sides. This is something that should give us all confidence in the stability and future of our country," he said.

The Conservatives also took a hit from the rise of the right-wing, populist Reform party.

Its leader and Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage finally won a seat in parliament after seven failed attempts over the years.

His party won four seats in total and in some parts of the country, they won more votes than the Conservatives.

The surge in support for a populist alternative echoed similar results in Europe recently.

But unlike France, where the far-right National Union party scored a historic victory in the first round of elections, most Britons have pinned their hopes on a centre-left party to bring about change./VOA
