Talks with the US in Geneva/ Iranian President: They could have a positive outcome

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that there is a possibility of positive results in the third round of talks with the United States.

The Iranian president's statements come as US special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to meet on Thursday in Geneva with the Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The two countries resumed negotiations earlier this month over their long-disputed nuclear program, as the United States bolsters its military presence in the Middle East in anticipation of possible attacks against the Islamic Republic.

Tehran has threatened to attack US bases in the region if attacked. On February 19, US President Donald Trump said he was giving Tehran about 10 to 15 days to reach a deal. On Tuesday, Araghchi said a deal with the US was feasible, only if diplomacy prevails.

The US and Israel believe Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons that could threaten Israel's existence. Tehran, on the other hand, has insisted its nuclear program is peaceful. /CNA
