Harry and Meghan visit refugee camp as part of Middle East trip

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met children at a refugee camp and hospital in Jordan as part of a two-day tour.

Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in the Middle Eastern country on Wednesday, where they will highlight efforts to support vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement.

The couple, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020, traveled to Amman at the invitation of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Their visit comes at a time of crisis for the Royal Family following the arrest of Harry's uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Harry and Meghan arrived in Amman on Wednesday morning for their first international tour together in 18 months and were warmly welcomed by Ghebreyesus on the steps of the WHO office in the Jordanian capital.

Once inside, the couple joined a discussion organized by the WHO with individuals from key bodies, including the United Nations and many of its agencies, diplomatic representatives and donors.

After the meeting, the couple traveled north of Amman to the large Za'atari Refugee Camp, where families live in semi-permanent homes with few shops available.

They visited a youth centre run by social development organisation Questscope. It offers a range of activities, from art and photography classes to music and sports, to engage young people and help alleviate mental health problems./CNA, translated by BBC
