Bill Gates admits to extramarital affairs/ Billionaire apologizes to his staff

Billionaire Bill Gates admitted this week to having two affairs with Russian women while married to Melinda French Gates and apologized to staff at his charity for his past ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, while insisting he was not part of anything "illegal."

"I didn't do anything illegal. I didn't see anything illegal ," the billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, 70, said at a public meeting for his Gates Foundation on Tuesday, according to international media reports.

According to a spokesman for him, during the talks at the meeting he answered questions posed by foundation staff on a range of issues, including the release of the Epstein files, the foundation's work in artificial intelligence and the future of global health.

Investigations resumed into Gates' history with Epstein, who died in custody in 2019 after being charged with human trafficking, because a trove of documents released by the US Department of Justice showed old emails from the sex abuser.

These emails, written by Epstein, accused Gates of contracting a sexually transmitted infection from "Russian girls" and then asked Epstein for help in hiding it from his then-wife.

US media reported that before their split, Melinda had been upset about her husband's relationship with Epstein. After their split was announced, Bill Gates admitted to having an affair with a Microsoft employee in 2019.

In his reported comments to staff on Tuesday, Gates said he met the two women he said he had affairs with through his social and business activities. /CNA
