Vance: Trump still prefers diplomatic solution with Iran

United States Vice President JD Vance has stated that President Donald Trump still prefers a diplomatic solution with Iran, hoping that Tehran will take this position seriously in the new round of talks. 

Vance said on a television show that Trump has made it clear that Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons. He said the US president is pursuing this goal through diplomacy, although he has other tools at his disposal.

During the interview, Vance declined to answer whether the United States would like Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to resign.

"We are sitting at the table for another round of diplomatic talks with the Iranians, trying to reach a reasonable compromise ," he said.

US and Iranian delegations will hold a third round of talks on Tehran's nuclear program on Thursday in Geneva. /CNA
