The new US ambassador to Albania is appointed/ The US Senate approves the

David Kostelancik will be the new US ambassador to Albania.

His candidacy was approved this Friday in the US Senate.

He was nominated by US President Joe Biden to replace the current ambassador, Yuri Kim.

A month ago, Kostelancik presented his program as ambassador for Albania before the Committee on Foreign Relations in the United States Senate.

David J. Kostelancik is a diplomat of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States of America, with the rank of Minister Counselor.

He began serving as a foreign policy advisor to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, in August 2021.

Previously, he was Deputy Chief of Mission, and for two years, Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Budapest, Hungary.

David Kostelancik has been appointed to the US State Department as Director of the Office for South-Central European Affairs. He has served as Director of the Office of Russian Affairs, in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.

He was also the Director of the Office of Europe and Asia at the International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

He has served twice at the US Embassy in Moscow.

Yuri Kim's deputy is very well versed in Albanian, Russian and Turkish.

Knowledge of the Albanian language is expected to facilitate even more the tasks as an ambassador in our country, Kostelancik./ CNA.al
