The Court of Appeal has changed the decision for Arbër Paplekaj, the former RENEA officer, who is accused of murdering Pjerin Xhuvan in Elbasan.

In the end, Paplekaj was sentenced to 7 years in prison, from 22 years that was the previous sentence. 

On the other hand, 6 members of the Eagles and two former deputy police directors were found not guilty.

Specifically, Dedion Duraku, Pëllumb Biçaku, Erion Balla, Erion Meçja, Donald Dedja, Besmir Kadiu, Albert Nushi and Nikollaq Palla were declared innocent.

We recall that on April 21, 2021, Pjerin Xhuvani was killed, after a gunfight in the "5 Maji" neighborhood in Elbasan. 

Arbër Paplekaj was the bodyguard of the former General Secretary of the DP, Gazment Bardhi, during the 2021 election campaign.

After a clash between two party groups, where weapons were also used, Paplekaj shot at Xhuvan, leaving him a victim.

At that time, as a result of the shooting, 39-year-old Emiljan Prenga, 50-year-old Pavlo Vuksani, 32-year-old Eltjon Bodinaku, son-in-law of Pjerin Xhuvan, were injured. Police officer Xhensila Sota was also injured.
