The head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has reacted to the death of the great writer, Ismail Kadare.

In a post on social networks, he says that the Albanian nation lost the great genius of letters. According to him, Kadare was the universal voice against totalitarianism, a bright symbol of our European vocation, to whom we will be forever grateful with the literary masterpieces left behind. 

"The Albanian nation lost today the great genius of letters and the most extraordinary exponent of the power of our thought, culture, values ??and creative strength, who like no one else gave them global proportions, making us all proud. Ismail Kadare was for the Albanians a light of hope in one of the darkest periods of the country, a universal voice against totalitarianism, a bright symbol of our European vocation, that with the literary masterpieces bequeathed we will be forever grateful. Sincere condolences to the dear Kadare family , the community of writers and publicists and the entire Albanian nation for this great and irreplaceable loss!", says Meta. 

Meanwhile, Pandeli Majko writes that the torch of Kadare's art lit the path of the Albanian nation towards the West!

"Ismail Kadare has passed away! Kadare was not an ordinary Albanian! He was a writer and poet whose art and genius made him a first-rate historian and philosopher for his people and Albanianness! The torch of Kadare's art lit up the path of the Albanian nation to the West! For many reasons, the loss of Kadare will be beyond human! Goodbye teacher!", says Majko. 

While the Minister of Economy and Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhe writes on social networks that this is sad news. 

"The genius of letters, a major figure of Albanian literature who echoed beyond the borders and all around representing us with dignity! Ismail Kadare will always remain a testament of unparalleled passion and talent, value and rich cultural heritage that through his lines will may he live on for generations! My sincere condolences to the family! Rest in peace, great master," he said. 

There was also a reaction from Kreshnik Çollaku, who says that today the nation is in mourning.

"One of his most enlightened minds has been extinguished forever. A day of national mourning would be the minimum obligation for this colossus of mind and pen. Rest in Peace, Ismail Kadare!", Kadare said. 

Ismail Kadare passed away at the age of 88 from natural causes.

Family members found him dead in his apartment in the early hours of Monday morning. They announced the emergency of QSUT, but they could not help the colossus of Albanian letters. /CNA
