A day after the publication of the data of the 2023 Census, in Albania, the reaction of North Macedonia has come, with the claim that they do not reflect the real number of Macedonian citizens. The Ministry of Labor and Foreign Trade states that "we are following them with serious concern".

"The technical irregularities in the way of carrying out the same, which constantly alarmed the Macedonian associations in the Republic of Albania on the eve of the Census, but also during its realization resulted in the publication of preliminary data, which unfortunately do not reflect adequately the real number of Macedonians in the country", it is said, among other things, in the reaction.

In its response, the ministry expresses concern over the use of the term "Northern Macedonians".

"Additionally, the Ministry expresses displeasure and strongly reacts to the use of the term "Northern - Macedonians" and the use of the name of the state as the name of the ethnic society.

The Ministry will call Ambassador Danço Markovsk for urgent consultations in terms of defining the shortcomings and irregularities in this process, examining the possibilities for adequate correction of the omissions made and finding the most adequate ways for joint action and the advancement of bilateral relations with the Republic of Albania", writes, among other things, from the MPTJ.

They promise that they will take concrete steps to pay more attention to the development of Macedonians in Albania, since, as they say, "they were left aside by the previous political set" in North Macedonia.

"All open issues between the two neighboring states must be resolved through dialogue of mutual understanding and respect for the rules, principles and values ??of fair international progress", concluded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia./CNA
