INSTAT has published today the data of the Population Census for the year 2023.

According to the data, about half a million Albanians have left Albania in 12 years.

In relation to these data, the opposition reacted, accusing the government of manipulating the figures.

Ines Nurja, head of the statistics department in the Democratic Party, said that not only the data on the number of the population but also on the number of dwellings were manipulated.

"According to INSTAT, the population in Albania is 2.4 million and for 12 years only 70 thousand apartments have been added. This is a total fraud," she said in a press conference.

Nurja said the number of apartments could not have increased by only 70 units in 12 years since in a simple calculation in Tirana in just 3 months the mayor Erion Veliaj has given 231 thousand square meters for construction.
