Yesterday, the Court of Appeal announced the postponement of the hearing scheduled for today against Ervin Salianji, who was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the Court of First Instance.
Through a press release, the Court announced yesterday that the hearing would not take place due to the absence of the prosecutor of the case.
"Following the communications on the activity of the Court of Appeal of the General Jurisdiction, we inform you that: Tomorrow, 28.06.2024, at 10:00, the court session of the criminal case against the defendants Ervin Salianji, etc. is scheduled.
We inform you that the session will not take place, because the prosecutor has filed with the court's secretariat a request to postpone the session, stating that for objective reasons he cannot be present. You will be notified about the next session", the Court's announcement states.
There can be no objective reason to justify postponement after postponement, for years. The number of postponements is no longer worth counting.
As it has started, the number of postponements has no difficulty in exceeding the number of personal votes collected by Salianji. Salianji had often previously attacked the prosecutors who took the file in which he himself was accused.
This is how he attacked the prosecutor Gent Osmani, who at least until July 2019 had in hand the case assigned to the group of defendants for the "Banale" case. The prosecutor of the case then appears, Parparim Kulluri, who was dismissed from the vetting in November 2019. Salianji also attacked the dismissed prosecutor as a tool of Edi Rama, but only after a month
The new prosecutor of the case, Col. Hysenaj presented the case to the court requesting:
- 1 year and 6 months suspension from political functions and 3 years of probation for the former DP deputy Ervin Salianji. The former deputy of the DP has been sued for the audio-interception of the "Babalaja" case, where the brother of the former Minister of the Interior Xhafaj, Agron Xhafaj, was accused of drug trafficking.
- the sentence of 3 years and 6 months in prison for Albert Veliu, who is accused of 'false report' and 'illegal crossing of the border'
- for Fredi Alizot, 3 years in prison;
- for the journalist Jetmir Olldashin, 1 year in prison, this sentence to be replaced by 200 hours of compulsory public work.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the three defendants made a false report.
The court of first instance sentenced the defendants and among them Ervin Salianji was sentenced to 1 year in prison.
The case got stuck in the Court of Appeal, where the rotation of illnesses of the lawyers in turn, then of the defendants in turn began, and recently, in the rotation of adjournments, both the Court and the Prosecutor's Office have come into play.
Unlike what used to happen, Salianji is no longer heard to accuse by name the prosecutor who today defends the file on appeal. Maybe it is for this reason that today there is no information about who is the prosecutor representing the charge against Salianji in the Appeal.
Also, the prices of the new justice are not yet known, because the system is still being tested. Therefore, there are still no tables of how much it costs today, for example. a postponement of the session for the trouble of a VIP convict like Salianji./ CNA
