The US Embassy in Tirana and that of the European Union have reacted by expressing their condolences for the passing away of the writer Ismail Kadare.

The US Embassy wrote in a post on social networks that his legacy will live on as a testament to the genius of letters.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of Ismail Kadare, whose literature inspires readers around the world. We recall with pleasure that the US Embassy honored Kadare with the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2020. His work has created bridges between Albania and the world, and his legacy will live on as a testament to his genius in letters. Our thoughts are with his family, with his loved ones and with the Albanian people", writes the embassy.

Meanwhile, the EU delegation in Tirana writes that his powerful literary voice, translated into 45 languages, resonated throughout Europe and beyond.

"Sad news from Tirana. Ismail Kadare, a literary giant and a beloved voice of Albania, has passed away at the age of 88. His powerful literary voice, translated into 45 languages, echoed throughout Europe and beyond, showcasing the rich and diverse Albanian culture around the world. His insightful, yet sympathetic prose reflected the complexity of Albania's history and lore. Our deepest condolences to his loved ones and all who admired his genius. Kadare's legacy will remain," said the reaction./ CNA
