The saga of delays continues / The trial session on the merits for Veliaj is postponed

The next trial session on the merits against the mayor, Erion Veliaj, and other defendants, facing 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, has been postponed again.

It is reported that the next hearing is scheduled for April 27 at 12:00. It is reported that the hearing was postponed because the Directorate of Prisons did not notify Veliaj of the hearing.

For months, the arrested mayor of Tirana has continued to postpone court hearings because he is afraid of facing justice, facts, and evidence.

Over 60,000 pages have been submitted that substantiate the 13 charges brought against Veliaj for corruption, abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of crime, concealing assets, and bringing prohibited items into the cell.

Since his arrest in February 2025, Veliaj has waged a media attack campaign against prosecutors and judges, paying lobbyists and studios to falsify reports submitted to the US Department of Justice. /CNA
