10-year memorandum expires/ Hunting returns, fines of up to 1.3 million for

This month, the nearly 10-year-old memorandum on hunting expired, reinstating it as a permitted activity in certain areas of the country.

The draft law "On Hunting" has been put out for public consultation by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

Experts in the field say that this change will be accompanied by new rules, such as preparing for at least 5 years for hunting.

"Hunting areas can be given to private entities through a competitive procedure and for a period of no less than 10 years, this is because according to experts in the field of hunting, it takes at least 5 years to prepare the game. The physical or legal entity will also be the manager of the area. In fact, the new draft law does not differ much from previous moratorium initiatives. The report also states that the legal initiative will serve to increase the population of birds and animals. The big problem is that today we have no data on how much the moratorium, which has been postponed several times, has affected the improvement of wildlife," Aleksandër Trajçe, Executive Director of PPNEA, told A2 CNN.

The new legal initiative provides that in cases where animals are hunted in prohibited areas and that are not part of the list or when a hunting permit is missing, there will be penalties with hefty fines, ranging from 500 thousand lek to 1 million and 300 thousand lek.  /CNA
