For the first time in Albania, at the American Hospital 3, smart surgery is performed on a child's brain, a rare and delicate intervention that requires extraordinary multidisciplinary coordination.

The complex intervention was performed by Prof. Mentor Petrela and Neurosurgeon Dr. Mirel Grada, with the support of a team composed of neurophysiologists, neuropsychologists, neurologists and neuroanesthesiologists.

Alvensi, was the first patient who, at the age of 14, presented with a disease of the left side of the brain that controls the hand, foot, and mainly the speech and communication center. So, it became imperative that in order to help him as much as possible, a smart surgery would give him the best chance than a surgery that would be performed under anesthesia.

A rare and extremely complex intervention was successfully performed, requiring not only the active participation of the patient, but also a medical team with special expertise and high international qualifications.
