Journalist Elvi Fundo shared his views today regarding the case against the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

In an interview on 'Syri Tv', Fundo also spoke about today's decision of the Supreme Court, which upheld the decision of the Appeals Chamber of the Kosovo Court of Cassation and Judge Engert Pëllumbi on the security measure 'prison arrest'.

"Different strategies have been used. The families of prosecutor Ols dado, judges Erion Bani and Engert Pëllumbi were also personally attacked. There were two alternatives, not to accept the recourse or to deal with the case. The decision given by Engert Pëllumbi has been seen, I have read it and I say that it is a lesson on criminal law. He has provided excellent legal practice and that the court should provide justice. Today we have had justice for Ardit Gjoklaj, for the arsonists, and for others. I say that this is a decision of justice," Fundo said.

Asked what would change if Veliaj were to resign, Fundo said it would be more dignified, even though Veliaj is already politically lost.

"We saw that Erion Veliaj does not resign. He was summoned 3 times to SPAK and did not show up. He started attacking Ols Dado under the rug. Not only did he not resign, but he also started attacking. If he did, it would be more dignified. He is already politically lost. The investigations come from depositions, in-depth investigations and to my knowledge, the prosecutors should officially charge him. If he had a shred of dignity, he would give it today. I think he will give it when Edi Rama asks him to," Fundo said.

According to Fundo, if Veliaj were to be released and then returned to office, this would be a disaster for justice.

"If he is released and reinstated, it would be a disaster in justice. Despite the problems, today he won a reform that is a solid foundation. If he were to go to office today, it would be like a thief going to the scene of a crime. There is a mayor who is in command, I don't know how much more capable or honest than Veliaj is, and we see that Prime Minister Rama has abandoned his duties and is doing the work of the municipality," Fundo emphasized./CNA
