"Albania, almost like Sweden"/ Europe Today: 44% of energy comes from

" Europe Today ", the news media specializing in current European affairs based in Brussels, in a recent article has provided details on the energy that comes from renewable sources.

Albania is also part of this article, where it is emphasized that even though our country is not yet part of the EU, it has reached the renewable energy targets that Brussels has set for 2030, coming close to Sweden as well.

"Albania (almost) like Sweden: 44% of energy comes from renewable sources. Italy stops at 19% (and falling)", says the title of the article in Italian, while further adding that:

"Albania is not yet a European Union country, but it can boast that it is already in line with the renewable energy target that Brussels has set for 2030. And for which most of the current member states are fighting, including Italy. Yes, because if the EU predicts a share of energy consumed from renewable sources of 42.5% by the end of the decade, Tirana today is 44%. A percentage that brings it close to the Scandinavian champions, much higher than the average of the Union and more than double that of Italy."

" Europe Today ", referring to the Eurostat data for 2022, says that Albania in the ranking is immediately behind the Scandinavian trio, Sweden, Norway and Finland, while Italy is stuck in the quota of 19%.

"This is what emerges from the latest Eurostat data, regarding the year 2022. In this year, the share of renewable sources in the gross final energy consumption among the 27 EU countries reached 23%, a increase (albeit slight) compared to 2021. Remaining within the Union, Sweden has the highest share, with 66%, followed by Finland (47.9%). Eurostat data also report the percentages of renewable energy in European countries outside the EU, of which Norway comes out with 75.8%. Albania is right behind the Scandinavian trio. Italy, on the other hand, has stalled at 19%, among other things a slight drop compared to 2021. In total, 17 of the 27 EU members reported rates lower than the EU average of 23.0% in 2022", the article emphasizes.

Furthermore, it is added that the new renewable energy directive has revised the EU's renewable energy target for 2030 from 32% to 42.5% (with the aim of increasing it to 45%), recalls the European Institute of Statistics. Therefore, EU countries must increase their efforts to collectively meet the new EU target for 2030./ CNA
