Exploitation of minors for labor/ Lawyer Serjani for CNA: Case of abuse,

Lawyer Gentian Serjani raised the alarm today that the exploitation of minors for work is not only a serious problem, but also a case of abuse.

In an interview with CNA TV, Serjani stated that these situations that are constantly encountered on the streets of the capital require cross-sectoral intervention.

Serjani said that one of the causes of this situation is the lack of proper policies.

"I will start with data from Eurostat, according to which 40% of Albanian families live in extreme poverty. This means that we have a high percentage of families with economic and social problems. Given this issue and this problem that Albanian society has today. We can undoubtedly see that there are children who are exploited by their parents to beg, for the purpose of profit. We see every day children from the Roma and Egyptian communities, mostly, who are exploited by their parents to obtain economic income. This situation is very complex and needs intersectoral intervention. We can say that it is a case of abuse, in terms of the exploitation of children, but we must also analyze the reasons for which it happens. There is also a lack of support from institutions. As long as we do not see that there are no genuine policies to be implemented and a generous budget, we will undoubtedly have such situations", -said Serjani. /CNA
