Landslide in Klos/Search continues for the body of the 29-year-old

The Ministry of Defense, in a public response, announced that the search continues for the body of the 29-year-old man, who was buried under a mass of soil at the chrome processing factory in Klos.

"On May 3, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m., in the area called "Qafa e Burrelit", near the chrome processing factory in the Klos municipality, a massive landslide occurred at a distance of about 2 km.

At this moment, an employee of a private company operating in the field of mineral exploitation was working with an excavator at the scene.

As a result of the landslide, the worker was trapped and covered by a mass of soil and inert materials.

Forces engaged in the search and rescue operation:

Since the first day, numerous structures and tools have been deployed at the scene to find the employee's body:

National Authority for Safety and Emergencies in Mines (AKSEM): 74 employees and special equipment such as thermal cameras and underground scanners.

Armed Forces: 115 forces from the 1013 Burrel military unit, 12 personnel from the Civil Emergency Support Base (BMEC) with special equipment for search and rescue in ruins, 24 personnel from the EOD company (Engineering Battalion), equipped with metal detection equipment.

State Police: 24 officers.

Medical Emergency: Present at the scene for necessary assistance.

National Agency of Natural Resources: 6 employees.

Volunteers: 535 citizens and 2 excavators who are working intensively in a part of the area where the landslide occurred.

Local structures: The local government structures of Klos Municipality, Mat Municipality and Dibër Prefecture are engaged.

International support:

With the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency, due to the complexity of the operation and the difficulty of the terrain, on 06.05.2025, through the National Civil Emergency Operations Center, support was requested from Kosovo with specialized search and rescue forces.

On 07.05.2025, a specialized Search and Rescue team from the Kosovo Security Force, consisting of 12 officers and 2 dogs trained to find people under rubble, joined the field operation.

Field conditions:

According to field assessments and discussions with operational managers, the landslide covered a distance of about 6 km in very difficult terrain for intervention and search. In a segment of the terrain, about 500 meters from the landslide point near the chromium enrichment plant, two excavators have been deployed to assist in digging and finding the body.

Operation coordination:

The operation is being led by the National Authority for Safety and Emergencies in Mines, in close cooperation with central and local structures.

"The National Civil Protection Agency and operational structures remain maximally engaged until the completion of the operation and the localization of the missing person," the Ministry of Defense announces./ CNA
