Since his election in December 2022 and until the end of his three-year mandate at the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani has been one of the most politically targeted and attacked prosecutors.

For years in office, his response to daily attacks was to investigate hot files, put senior officials behind bars, and strengthen this institution's principle that "No one is above the law."

During his leadership, the myth of impunity disappeared. Altin Dumani had the support of the US and the EU, which from time to time in their reports highlighted the results and achievements of SPAK under Altin Dumani's leadership.

SPAK, with Dumani at the helm, achieved success in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

On the eve of the end of his mandate, Altin Dumani decided to respond to the politics and attacks that had been made against him during the three years he had led SPAK.

In one of his public appearances, Dumani spoke about the threats that prosecutors receive from politics.

Dumani said that this happens from morning to night, where politicians threaten SPAK prosecutors with personal and family names.

"As for politics, you are witnesses from morning to night, prosecutors with specific names and family members are threatened, smeared, insulted. This is a form of intimidation. We are sufficiently prepared to face these threats, this is a reality that I cannot ignore. Politically and what has been said publicly by politicians, in my opinion, are sufficient to be called threats," Dumani said.

He had also expressed this in his report to the Assembly.

"Regarding the problems, I would like to summarize: There is ongoing external pressure from political, media and organized crime actors, which endangers the integrity of the institution and prosecutors. This concern requires a coordinated institutional response to protect the constitutional independence of SPAK. There is a significant legal lack and uncertainty about the situation of the prosecutor after the end of the mandate, which creates uncertainty and may undermine the further continuation of investigations and may affect the quality of investigations. The low number of reports from institutions also remains worrying. This constitutes a challenge for SPAK," said Dumani.

Prosecutor Altin Dumani also responded to the attacks of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.

"What I'm saying is that first of all, prosecutors are independent, they are the masters of the case, they decide the fate of the investigations. As a leader, I have offered my solidarity and assistance in the case by getting involved in the investigations. Nothing is true and it is not true," he said.

Dumani emphasized once again that for prosecutors and SPAK, there is no one untouchable, including Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"For me and the Special Prosecutors, there are no untouchable persons. If there is evidence of the commission of a crime, criminal prosecution is also carried out against the prime minister. Even against anyone. If there is evidence, there is no obstacle or legal prohibition against us not carrying out criminal prosecution against the prime minister. Only if there is evidence of the commission of a criminal offense," said Dumani.
