End-of-year holidays/ Albanian Road Authority presents plan of measures

The Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, has presented the plan of measures taken for the end-of-year holidays.

Kozeli states that the ARA is on alert and has taken measures to ensure continuous traffic on all road axes throughout the country.

He called on all drivers to equip themselves with winter tires and have chains on their cars, to ensure that there are no roadblocks and that traffic is continuous.

"Today is the last day of the year and, as every year, an increased flow of vehicles is expected on all roads in Albania. ARRSH, together with all subcontractor teams, is on full alert and has taken all measures to ensure continuous traffic on all road roads throughout Albania. During today's evening and in the early hours of the morning, the first low-intensity snowfalls were recorded in the Southeast area, specifically on the Qafë Thanë - Kapshticë, Boboshticë - Dardhë and Korçë - Ersekë axes. Meanwhile, in the Northern area, snowfall was recorded on the Kukës - Shishtavec axis at an altitude of over 700 meters.

The lowest temperatures were recorded in the Valbona area, where the thermometer marked -11 degrees Celsius, while in the Theth area the temperatures were -5 degrees Celsius. Based on weather forecasts, during the night of the new year, but especially in the first days of next year, temperatures will be significantly lower and for this the ARA has taken all precautionary measures, where 130 snowplows, 577 other vehicles and 800 employees will be on standby, who will be on standby 24 hours a day.

Also, 5300 tons of salt and 1800 tons of granulate have been procured to ensure that all axes are free of snow. I call on all drivers to equip themselves with winter tires and have chains on their cars, this to ensure that there are no blockages on the axes and that traffic is continuous. The year 2025 has been a very successful year for the Albanian Road Authority, where very important strategic road infrastructure works have been delivered, as we have also had a very satisfactory progress of all construction sites.

Today I am speaking from the Tirana - Durrës construction site, where the progress has been quite positive, but in parallel the Elbasan - Qafë Thanë, Elbasan - Rrogozhinë and Berat - Ballabani construction sites have also had very good progress. I take this opportunity to thank all the employees of the Albanian Road Authority, because despite the challenges of 2025, thanks to them it has been possible to deliver the strategic works mentioned earlier. Likewise, I am confident that 2026, despite the challenges it will have, will be a very successful year for the Albanian Road Authority and the Albanian road infrastructure" , said Kozeli. /CNA
