In one of the neighborhoods of the village of Voskop in the municipality of Korça, the river overflowed its banks due to heavy rainfall and floods yesterday.

One of the village residents describes the difficult situation he experienced during the evening when the water of the Gjonomadhi River flooded his home and warehouse.

According to Tefik Shaholli, the damage is extensive both in the apartment and in the warehouse that held agricultural products and work tools.

Shaholli tells how they initially dealt with the situation, and after the arrival of the emergency team, it became possible to open a channel and install a pipeline that removed the water from the warehouse.

"Yesterday I woke up at two in the morning, when I saw water all over the place. I told my wife that we, the children in emigration, were the second ones, I told her "get up because we drowned". The water had entered, the house was completely filled with water. I went out with a shovel through the water with my wife, the water had also entered, we covered the doors with some rags but it was a mess. The water had jumped over the bridge. This situation continued until morning, in a fight with the water. The emergency services came, they opened a channel here in the street, they put a pipe in", he said. 

As he shows the damage caused, and experiences a terrible evening, Shaholli prays that the same situation will never happen again.

"It caused damage inside my apartment. It also damaged a couple of quintals of wheat that I had here, the corn ran into the river, it damaged my motorcycle, a bicycle, and a battery-powered scale. We experienced it badly, so that it never happens to us again, water and fire are no worse."

In Voskop, there was a river overflowing at two of the bridges in this village, while thanks to the intervention of the residents themselves and emergency services, the situation has normalized today./ CNA
