Alphabet Day/ Rama: The Albanian word continues to build the history of a nation

Albanian Language Alphabet Day is celebrated every year on November 22, to commemorate one of the most important events in the cultural and national history of Albanians, the Congress of Manastir, held from November 14 to 22, 1908.

This congress was attended by 50 delegates from 26 cities and various Albanian associations, as well as 18 observers. The delegates represented patriotic and intellectual clubs from all Albanian lands.

The Chairman of the Congress was Mit'hat Frashëri, while Luigj Gurakuqi and Gjergji Qiriazi were elected Vice-Chairmen. Other prominent delegates included Gjergj Fishta, Ndre Mjeda, Sotir Peci, Parashqevi Qiriazi and Fehim Zavalani. In the opening speech, the importance of creating a unique alphabet to unify the Albanian language and to help spread national education was emphasized.

In the context of this day, Prime Minister Edi Rama sent a congratulatory message to all Albanians.

Through a post on social networks, Rama writes:

"GOOD MORNING and happy Alphabet Day, the day that sealed Albanian not only as a linguistic code, but as a universe of identity, thought and cultures on the path to the future where the Albanian word continues to build the history of a nation whose soul is in its language."/ CNA
