The commander and hero Adem Jashari, the founder of the KLA, is commemorated

This Thursday, the Albanian nation celebrates Flag Day, as well as commemorating Adem Jashari, one of the most outstanding fighters of the Albanian nation.

Founder of the KLA, commander and hero of the Liberation War of the Albanian people of Kosovo, Jashari was born in Prekaz, Drenica, on November 28, 1955.

Adem Jashari participated in the 1981 Demonstrations in Kosovo, where the main demand of the Albanians was "Kosovo Republic". Until 1989, he remained in hiding due to persecution by Serbian forces.

In 1990, Adem Jashari organized the first armed groups in Kosovo. In 1991, he, together with the brothers Rifat and Hamza, managed to break the siege of the Serbian forces.

On November 25, 1997, Adem Jashari's forces attacked Serbian police troops in Vojnik, forcing them to retreat. While on November 28, 1998, during the burial ceremony of the teacher Halil Geci, killed by the Serbian forces, the representatives of the Kosovo Liberation Army came to the stand with the KLA symbols.

Serbian forces were not able to enter Drenica again until January 22, 1998, but on March 2, 1998, numerous Serbian forces accompanied by tanks, armored cars and artillery surrounded the Jashari family home.

The 22 family members who were in the house fought with the Serbian forces for three days and nights. From this family, 21 members between the ages of 9 and 74 were killed. Among those killed was Adem Jashari, who became a symbol of inspiration and resistance for Albanians.

On this marked day for Kosovo, a reaction has also come from Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who emphasizes that this November 28 finds him with the project of the "Adem Jashari" Memorial Complex in Prekaz. "In this holy place that preserves the traces of the heroic deed of the Jashari Family, we return again and again to remember the price of freedom that we enjoy today", says Kurti.

The head of the government of Kosovo emphasizes that they will spare nothing to build an internationally important memorial complex, which will reflect dignified and with a high artistic level, the resistance and struggle of the people for freedom, independence and union, just as the figure of Adem Jashari and Amilja Jashari deserves it./ CNA
