In Albania, SPAK today gave details on the operation of the previous day against the criminal organization, which was led by Suel Çela, who was wanted. SPAK announces that the organization trafficked cocaine from Latin America to the EU, had connections with judges, police and journalists. Among the suspects are the black chronicle journalists Artan Hoxha and Elton Qyno, who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, are suspected of having received money from Çela for the positions they took in the media outlets or articles written by them. But the journalist Hoxha, asked by the Voice of America, categorically denied the accusation, while saying in his response that he has never used his profession in favor of crime, politics and business.

The Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime detailed today in the public announcement that the group led by Suel Çela was focused on cocaine trafficking from Latin America, as well as was involved in murder and attempted murder, the attack on a rival organization in the city of Elbasani, as well as the corruption of police and justice officials.

According to the Special Prosecutor's Office, Çela aimed to " control the territory, mainly in Central Albania, using various mechanisms as well as continuous violence against rival criminal groups ", while the narcotics from Latin American countries ended up in European markets, such as Germany. United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Sule Çela, considered the head of the organization, was according to SPAK " responsible for the management and coordination of criminal activities, including murders, international drug trafficking, the commission of corrupt actions and the organization of money laundering schemes." Meanwhile, some of the members with key roles were an operative part of the organization, engaged in the planning and execution of serious criminal offenses, including premeditated murder and drug trafficking .

The Special Prosecutor's Office declares that it has managed to document an attempted murder in 2020, the attempts to kill two people in 2020, two attempts to traffic 930 kg and 466 kg of cocaine from Ecuador to European countries, in December of 2020 and in January of 2021, as well as " exercising influence through corrupt acts in certain segments of the system of justice, the state police and the media ".

In addition to the members of the organization, the arrest warrants also included the former commissioner Dedan Gjoni, arrested earlier for ties to criminal organizations, as well as the former judge Pajtime Fetahu, who was under house arrest for another episode.

According to the Special Prosecutor's Office, " using their official position, they helped the organization with information, also providing facilities and influence in the judicial system in exchange for favors and material benefits ".

The organization used connections with people in the police and justice, not only to facilitate its activity, but also to hit its rivals.

The investigation led to the issuance of 19 arrest warrants and "compulsion to appear" measures for the two black chronicle journalists Artan Hoxha and Elton Qyno, who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, are suspected of having received money from Çela, for positions they have taken in media appearances or articles written by them.

Artan Hoxha

The two well-known chronicle journalists, Hoxha and Qyno, are suspected of helping the organization to influence public opinion, with the aim of weakening the positions of rival groups.

But the journalist Artan Hoxha, contacted by the Voice of America, denied the accusation categorically in his response, where he emphasizes that he was not an associate of any criminal organization, and that he never used his profession in favor of the interests of crime, politics or business .

"We will prove in court that the accusations against us are unjust and that the service we have provided to the public has been completely professional, correct, impartial, always sticking to the publication of the truth", said Mr. Hoxha.

He added that in this particular case, on the contrary, he denounced the activity of these criminal organizations, their connections with law enforcement agencies and their cooperation with people in power.

SPAK emphasized that " Suel Çela has aimed to manipulate public perception, presenting his rivals as untouchable due to the suspected connections they may have with politics. The push for wealth investigations within the framework of Operation Law Enforcement, and the media's push to obtain testimony from individuals who could incriminate his rivals would create, according to him, in the public opinion the perception that these rivals, because of their suspected connections political, have become "untouchable". This strategy, which includes the manipulation of information and influence on public opinion, would not only increase his positions, but at the same time would harm the interests of his rivals .

The prosecutor's office said that " it is suspected that these goals were realized through cooperation with journalists Hoxha and Qyno, who, against illegal monetary benefits, took positions in the media, as well as published articles and videos that misinformed and manipulated public opinion ."

But Mr. Hoxha emphasized that the accusation of being a member of an organization is completely unsupported by true or reliable evidence and facts, while the investigation body has intentionally confused the journalist's profession, journalistic techniques to obtain information with the criminal activity of a criminal organization.

"SPAK's action has been accompanied by a flood of accusations and untruths published in the media by important political exponents, for whom I have published corrupt acts in the past. It seems strange, if not deliberate, that SPAK decided to act against two leading journalists who denounced information obtained from the encrypted SkyeCC network, which shows the involvement of organized crime with policy and enforcement people of the law. The illegal control carried out in our apartments, seizing our tools and the archive of our work as journalists, was accompanied by the accusations that have been unfairly addressed to us", said Mr. Hoxha.

He emphasized that in his 30-year career as an investigative journalist, not only did he not cooperate with organized crime, let alone curate his image, but he risked his life and that of his family, by denouncing the activity of organized crime, the bosses his most important, their connections with power and politics to the detriment of Albanian society and the country.

Yesterday, the apartment of the journalist Hoxha was thoroughly checked and all his work tools and electronic archives, as well as documents, were seized, while in the afternoon he was called to SPAK and was informed that the check was illegal, returning all his belongings. seized.

The persons involved so far in this SPAK investigation are suspected of at least 9 different criminal offenses, from attempted murder, drug trafficking, criminal organization, corruption or money laundering./ VOA
