Cleaning of Lake Fierza/ Baumann: Over 30 tons of waste have been removed in two

Although Fierza Lake has the status of a protected area, almost every year it faces the problem of urban waste, which, apart from the lack of awareness of the residents of the area and visitors, is also deposited by the rivers. For several weeks, a broad action aimed at the complete purification of the lake has been launched.

In an interview for CNA TV with journalist Enea Meksi, Circular Economy Expert, founder and executive director of "Recycling Albana", Lulzim Baumann, gave details about the cooperation with a German company that made it possible to bring a boat that enables high-capacity cleaning.

"Unfortunately, for many years Lake Fierza has been facing massive pollution, mainly plastic that can be seen on the surface, and the problem is that they accumulate year after year and the amount is increasing at the moment that we cannot undertake massive actions. We have brought a boat from Germany that has a high cleaning capacity, otherwise Lake Fierza cannot be cleaned. This is the first time that we aim with this project with all the actors who are cooperating at the local, central and international level so that Lake Fierza is cleaned once and for all."

Baumann also talked about the amount of waste collected in a day

"There are three to five boats per day with an estimated 500 to 700 kilograms of waste each, I can say that it is approximately 3.5 tons of waste per day that we remove from the lake and so far since the launch of the casion there are more than 30 tons remains."

Among other things, Baumann asked for awareness for the preservation of this natural asset of Albania and called for voluntary participation in the cleanup./ CNA
