In April, the number of accidents was 123, with an increase of over 78% compared to April 2023, according to data published by the Institute of Statistics.

Referring to the publication as a 4-month, in total, the number of accidents was 500 from 332 that was in the same period of the previous year.

"In the month of April 2024, 123 road accidents are counted, of which 164 are accidents (killed and injured). During the first 4 months of 2024, the death rate in road accidents is 10.8 per 100 accidents, from 17.8 that was in the same period of the previous year," states the publication of INSTAT.

After a period with a decrease in accidents, noticed mainly during the last year, it seems that the trend this year is in the opposite direction, where road accidents have increased month after month.

The main cause of accidents according to the data is estimated to be the behavior of drivers at the wheel, while the most problematic age group is estimated to be between 25-34 years old.

"Road accidents, in 84.6% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. The highest number of accidents, in this period, was committed by the 25-34 age group, accounting for 29.3% of the total number of accidents.

In April 2024, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Monday with 23.5%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Saturday, with 9.8%.
