Media: Hazardous waste from the Port of Durrës to Thailand, the ship

The authorities in Thailand have been alerted due to the cargoes leaving from the Port of Durrës.

They suspect that two ships from Albania with 100 containers contain about 800 tons of hazardous waste.

This has been denounced by the Basel Action Network, a US-based non-profit organization that tracks the trade in toxic waste.

This organization claims that the containers are filled with hazardous dust that accumulates from steel furnace filters.

One of the ships approached Cape Town at the end of July, but now the Thai authorities have lost track of it.

According to " Bongkok Pos t", Thai officials have stated that they are working with the Albanian authorities and those in Singapore for illegal traffic.

On the other hand, "Bloomberg" states that a ship was scheduled to dock in Cape Town and should arrive in Thailand around August 20.

A surveillance alert was issued for this vessel and on July 31, it turned off GPS and its location is unknown.

Regarding this case, the media report that the Customs Directorate has launched an investigation, in cooperation with OLAF./ CNA
