Fires in Finiq put residents at risk/ Two families are evacuated

Civil emergency forces are continuing the battle with fires in several areas in the north and south of the country.

Some of the outbreaks in the village of Mesopotam in the municipality of Finic could not be neutralized and as a result two families were evacuated.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vëngu, during a visit to this area.

"For 24 hours we have been fighting these difficult outbreaks. It is a very dry terrain, dense vegetation. Fortunately, we have not had residential areas exposed at the moment, but we had to evacuate two families in the heights of Mesopotamia with the support of the district police. All forces will continue to stay on the ground", emphasized Vëngu.

According to the Minister of Defense, the priority in these operations is the protection of residential areas.

"We have significant fires, but we are proceeding according to priority, starting from residential areas and then allocating forces to protected areas or culturally important areas afterwards. The priority is people's lives, the safety of our personnel, who have already been engaged in extinguishing fires for two months. We must not forget this part. It is very important, with the director we have talked several times recently with mayors or prefects of the affected districts: Prevention, prevention, prevention! Here we are in fact in areas where we have an excellent cooperation of the residents of the area who are engaged themselves, maintain the areas, maintain their plots. We are after a period of considerable drought. This doesn't help us, obviously that's why the vigilance remains maximum, here in the residential areas', emphasized Vëngu./ CNA
